Opening Reception: October 4, 6 - 8 pm
In our project space, DC MOORE GALLERY is pleased to present a three-person exhibition featuring the work of Ethan Ryman, Dan Schmidt, and Barbara Takenaga. Ethan Ryman’s wall installation explores light and space. Appearing to be a grid composed of identical elements, Ryman’s wall mounted sculpture is, upon closer inspection, gently askew, emphasizing the mind’s tendency to distort reality. Dan Schmidt’s watercolors employ found objects and an arsenal of modest shapes to break the boundary between the conscious and the accidental. Barbara Takenaga’s panels are densely populated by swirling, shimmering dots and demonstrate the mind’s minimal requirements to imagine astral space.
Each work in in this group show plays reality against imagination. Ethan Ryman, Dan Schmidt and Barbara Takenaga are interested in human perception, and their work uncovers the multitude of experiences that can emanate from one object.
