Join Aperture at Focus on the Story, for a conversation between Chris Boot (Aperture, Executive Director) and photographer Duane Michals.
Duane Michals is a unique figure in photography. His staged sequences and stories, ranging from jokes about the nature of photography, to profound observations on human desire and frailty, (and often both), are defined by Michals’ singular voice, aesthetic and humor. Since the 1960s, his performances-for-the-camera have shaped the possibilities of photography, while his wide ranging and prolific practice includes portraiture and assignment work. In conversation with Michals, Chris Boot will explore his journey in photography, including – on the day Washington DC celebrates LGBTQ Pride, 49 years after Stonewall – his contribution to queer sensibility and culture.
Focus on the Story: International Photo Festival celebrates the art of photography and the stories behind the images. The festival’s four days, June 7 – 10, will bring together the photography community, engaging in panel discussions, workshops, exhibits, portfolio reviews, and more.
