Paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and installations by 35 contemporary artists will be exhibited in the galleries of the American Academy of Arts and Letters on historic Audubon Terrace (Broadway between 155 and 156 Streets) from Thursday, March 9 through Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Exhibiting artists were chosen from a pool of nearly 165 nominees submitted by members of the Academy, America’s most prestigious honorary society of architects, artists, writers, and composers. Participating artists are eligible to receive one of nine awards, which include five Arts and Letters Awards in Art, the Jacob Lawrence Award, the Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Award, the John Koch Award, and the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award. More information about these awards can be found here.
Works in the exhibition are eligible to be purchased and donated to museums in the country through the Academy’s Hassam, Speicher, Betts, and Symons Purchase Fund. There are also purchase funds available for sculpture. More information about this fund can be found here.
