A one-time showing via Zoom of the 39-minute HBO documentary Remembering the Artist, Robert De Niro, Sr. This event is presented in association with Figuration Never Died: New York Painterly Painting, 1950-1970, which includes work by Robert De Niro, Sr. and nine other artists. Curator Karen Wilkin will offer a Q&A after the film to discuss the Figuration movement and De Niro’s place in it.
Karen Wilkin is a New York-based curator and art critic and the Atelier Head of Art History at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture, where she teaches in the MFA program. Wilkin was educated at Barnard College and Columbia University and was a Fulbright Fellow and a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. She is a regular contributor to The New Criterion and The Wall Street Journal as well as a contributing editor for art for The Hudson Review. Her publications include monographs on Paul Cézanne, Georges Braque, Giorgio Morandi, Stuart Davis, Anthony Caro, and David Smith. She has organized numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally on modern painters and sculptors, including Stuart Davis, Anthony Caro, David Smith, Hans Hofmann, Milton Avery, Judith Rothschild, and Helen Frankenthaler.
