The nights are longer now.
Perhaps the world seems more dangerous?
Perhaps there is need for solitude? Certainly, for reflection.
Within the depth of night, artists explore a spectrum of thoughts, visions, and desires. They linger in illumination by moonlight, iPhone radiance, neon signs, astronomical phenomena, and wildfire. Across many works, the moon appears and reappears as a shape-shifting companion. Against the abstract void of pure night, colors and forms appear charged with energy, either indistinct or in hyperfocus. Depth is uncertain. Whether in the isolated quiet of a forest or the liveliness of a social gathering, a sense of mystery pervades.
Featuring 39 contemporary and early 20th century artists, NIGHT is an exhibition exploring visual and metaphorical darkness and light. Apparitions of worry and wonder are staged across scales, from celestial landscapes to intimate, enclosed spaces.
